On Christmas Day my Clumber had a tear up with my 16 year old toothless and senile staff over ownership of an empty Bounty wrapper from a pack of Celebrations. As I've pulled them apart (well, pulled the very enthusiastic Clumber off the distinctly non participating and very unenthusiastic staff), she's hit her leg against the coffee table and broken it at the elbow joint - Technically it's a lateral condyle fracture and it's apparently very common in all spaniel breeds. Several days of vets (Notoriously cheap and plentiful on Christmas and Boxing Day!!), surgical operations and a rather large withdrawal from my slush fund later and she is technically mended, although with a reasonable amount of metal work inside her (X Ray should be attached if i've done this right). Here's the problem - She has been confined to bed except for the purposes of feeding and toileting for the next 10 days and then for the six to eight weeks after that she is allowed two five minute walks a day, gradually building up in time as she heals. We have her in a cage in the back room with bed and water, but she is absolutely bored stiff, to the point where she is very loudly harrumphing on a regular basis and her tail goes at a thousand miles an hour when anyone goes anywhere near her. She's very used to regular exercise and stimulation as we've a household full of kids - Anybody got any bright ideas of something to keep her occupied, but immobile (other than watching Jeremy Kyle). I was thinking of one of those treat balls, but it will mean that she'll want to move about after it!! Help!!
