bigsam
I have just experienced an excellent days pigeon shooting on oil seed rape stubble let me put you in the picture.... The day started with light drizzle i decided to go and look at a bit of ground that i know well (about 12.30pm) and see if i could get under a flight line. After ten mins with the binos i decided to stand under a hedge of tall popular trees. I thought i may get abit of sport for an hour or so and then the rain would sway me to return home. So i set off with gun and cartridges to my chosen spot. After half an hour i had had a nice bit of sport and downed about half a dozen birds. So i set them up on the adjoining field of stubble to see if i could decoy a few- bearing in mind that i had no hide or movemnt in the decoys. I simply stood next to a tree dressed in realtree. Within the next hour i had decoyed about 15 birds ! I could not believe how well they was decoying even in, what now seemed heavier, rain. So un-dettered by the rain i stayed and got wet but it was well worth it. By about 3pm the rain had virtually stopped and a stiffish breeze had picked up. I continued to shoot well taking no further than eight left and rights with my trusty auto. I eventually decided enough was enough about 7.30pm the weather had cleared to leave a lovely bright evening. After half an hour of picking up i had accounted for no less than 97 pigeons ! this is by far my best day i have ever had and this breaks my personal record of 53 that me and my dad shot last year on rape stubble again. I was wondering if anyone has ever been in this situation where you have no hide or even decoys to get started with ?
