fieldwanderer
You can tweek them (I'm guessing that's what he means) do a search on google "300tdi pump tuning" and you'll see how it's done, simple enough to do - I've done mine. rodp
300TDI mods. First off remove EGR (make blanking plate for manifold, at least 6mm thick). On the side of the injection pump there's what looks like an upside down frying pan (app 2.5 inches dia) covering a casting, it's screwed on. Remove this lid and under it ther's a diaphragm, unscrew the mounting ring and remove the diaphragm. On the bottom of it there's a shaft with an offset cut out in it. Look in the hole in the housing and you will see a small plunger sticking out the side. Replace the shaft and diaphragm rotating it to give maximum movement to the little plunger sticking out inside the hole that the diaphragm covers. Before removing diaphragm mark where it sits in case you need to return it to that position for MOT. Check turbo boost, it should be 1 bar on 300 TDI, alter as nec. What you are doing is altering the fuel to boost ratio, effectively altering the stupid emissions settings and also bringing the boost in earlier, a lot more torque without destroying the engine. All this is from memory, I used to market a kit years ago with blanking plates, boost gauge etc at the shows. Remember, piston / exhaust gas temperature is important on a diesel, you would not want to tow 3 tons flat out up the Alps with a modded engine. !for Williams with Range Rover on up Birdlip at 50 mph behind 300 TDI Defender is fine, and it surprises a few when you pass them Please don't slag me off if my memory has not served me well
