SSS
In my opinion, you cant do it too soon. Basic training can be started young. As soon as the pup listens to you is the best time. You may get different answers but I am not a proffesional Good luck

Sprocket
I start training to whistle as soon as I get my new pups home -By this I mean getting it to sit for its food and at the same time adding either the word Sit or a single "sit whistle command". I also coupee down and encourage the pup to come to me using several repeated whistles (to replicate a recall whistle). When the pup is able to go into a field, I usually start the Quartering / directional change whistle using 2 peeps each time you get them to change direction. I MUST STRESS THAT THE WHISTLE COMMANDS AT THIS AGE SHOULD BE VERY QUIET. PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THIS IS AN EARLY LEARNING/DEVELOPMENT STAGE AND NOT A FORMAL TRAINING ACTIVITY. EVERY THING AT THIS STAGE SHOULD BE GENTLE AND ADMINISTERED IN A FREINDLY/PLAYFULL MANNER. Others may do it differently - but it is suprising how quickly pups learn these types of commands without any pending pressure. Sprkt.
