Sammy_D
Hey guys. Looking at fitting a wading kit to my landy but want a few things cleared up as i cant find them on google! If i fit a wading kit can it stay on the car permanent or does it have to be taken off after going through water. Are they easy to fit as im not very good at these sort of things. So if anyone local to me wants to help me out for a bit of cash or a pint id be very greatfull! Do i have to get a snorkel to go with it all aswell? Thanks Sammy D
ProteuS
How deep into water do you want to go? Generally speaking, if you want to go wading, an important thing to do is the axle and engine breathers. It's a simple job to do, and there are loads of informative guides out there. You don't have to fit a snorkel, however it will give you peace of mind if you do go through deep water (provided it's fitted correctly and sealed tight) Some landrovers have wading plugs that you can fit before wading and remove after. and some people say to take the fan belt off to stop spraying water everywhere. beware though, if you have a td5 and you want to go deep, that the ECU is vunerable and will need either relocating or waterproofing (sealing it in a waterproof box). have fun. ProteuS
If you are just going above the wheels I think you'll be fine without doing anything. Just make sure to check your oils (including diffs) regularly and changing more frequently if you are doing a lot of it.
slingshot
ProteuS is spot on with that info but as he said earlier there are two wading plugs one on the bottom of the timing belt housing and one on the bell housing the one on the bell housing is not so important but the one on the timing belt housing is they only cost a couple of £ and screw in and if you are wading on a regular basis they can be left in, as long as you dont go above bonnet level and keep moving to keep the bow wave and subsequent false low the wading plugs are all you need just make sure you do a reckon before driving in water can look 1ft deep and actually be 4ft "if in doubt get the long stick out"
