activeviii
I have just had an email from the lady in the US that i order all my flocking from. for the next couple of days she is having 30% off he ebay shop but only on a couple of colours, black being one of them. http://stores.ebay.com/Katevo-Creations-and-Flocking if you want to do your crows then it is very very easy. black flocking powder. Black gloss paint. wire brush. paint brush. bakers flour shaker a box, you need to tape up all the hole on the inside Get your plastic crow and wash the mud off it Give a quick wire brushing so take any loose **** off. put the flocking in the flour shaker, i made my own with a chocolate milkshake powder pot and drilled a load of 2mm holes in the lid paint crow with black oil base paint, i use house hold gloss. do not paint the eyes, beak or feet. whilst still wet, wetter the better but dont load the paint on as it will drip. hold the painted crow over the box and shake the flocking onto the wet paint. you will know if you havent put enough on as the paint will soak back though the coating, just shake more on until no paint can be seen. do not shake or tap the crow, you need to leave all the extra powder on the paint until the thing i dry. i use a big box and one of these trog bucket things. i hold the crow over the bucket to shake the powder on then stand the crow in the box. this way you can pour the flocking from the bucket back into the shaker for the next bird. leave the bird in the box until it's dry then tap the dry bird to get the excess flocking off paint the eyes and the beak with a thin coat of black gloss, this just gives it a better finish but up to you if you do it. if you want the crows to look like jackdaws then you paint the smaller crows and once dry you put the bird in a bag but leave the neck and head out. get a cheap can of grey spray and give a VERY light dusting of spray to the head and neck. it dosent take a lot to over do it. i hold the spray about 18" away and very light dusting. Pigeons can be dont the same way but this time use dark grey gloss and grey flocking. wingbars and neck with white tester pot of egg shell acrylic paint beak and eyes with a yellowy model paint i add a little spray of greeny/blue with an air brush for the neck i did one lot about 2 years ago and there still like new. ok there not like the better shop bought ones but it only costs about a fiver to do 12 shells. mine i bought from the bay and they where shot to hell but it dont matter as the flocking hides all that. i have about 40 shells and in all it has cost me about £30 i will try and sort some photos out what i get the chance all the best Phil. forgot to add. a 1oz bag will do about 10 pigeon shells, 4/5 crows, 5/6 full body pigeons. but at $2 i just buy a little more. 1lt of gray paint did me 40 pigeon shells Edited February 26, 2010 by activeviii
