Batch
Being fairly new to pigeon shooting and reading as much as I can to help improve my chances of getting a decent day on woodies, I have read that high/low pressure can have an affect on woodie movement!! Does this ring true with peoples general experience? Do any of you check the pressure before going shooting and cancel days if the pressure is too high? Only reason I ask is that I had a call from a mate this morning who is trying to locate some woodies but said there is not a pig in the sky despite there being fairly good wind! Checked the weather and today is realtively high pressure.......any thoughts? Cheers
anser2
I am not sure many pigeon shooters check the air pressure before they go !!! Perhaps whats more important is that with high pressure you often have light winds and settled weather , while with low pressure its often windy. I find a good stiff breeze helps get the birds moving around while on still days the birds seem more reluctant to flight and often seem to spend the day sitting about in the trees. Also your shooting scares the birds out of your area more on still days. Yesterday was a good example . Very light winds between 8.30 and 1.00 and 12 birds in the bag. The breeze picked up to 15mph and the birds started to move in good numbers and another 58 pigeons were added to the bag in the next 2 hours. Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
As a mountain leader I have a all singing and dancing BIG %%%OFF watch. With pressure barometer and if the pressure drops pigeons turn on. Same with my trout fishing but if the pressure changes too quickly it can have the opposite affect it can put the fish down or birds off.
