goldeneye243
I bought a Winchester SX3 yesterday and I am pleased with it so far. I joined a friend for an hour or so, but the pigeons were not coming in. Anyway, I was wondering what sort of cleaning people would recommend for a camo semi-auto and what sort of frequency. Also, is it best to oil the outside, like you would a wooden stocked shotgun? I have got a Bisley cleaning kit, but not sure what order to do it all in.... I am happy taking it apart and putting it back together..... Any help appreciated!
Imperfection
The stock on your gun will be synthetic so when its dirty-just use soapy water! As for the barrell and mechanism: Spray your usual cleaner down the barrell and the gas vents and leave to soak for 5-10 minutes. Then using the bronze brush-work it to get the stubourn bits out. Then screw the jag onto rod,put a cotton patch/kitchen roll on and remove leftover crud.Repeat as necesary.Attach mop to rod, work this through barrell until it shines. You will need to clean the gas vents now so poke a piece of stiff wire through them to remove any soot and solvents. Remove slide mechanism from magazine tube and bolt assembly.Clean with same cleaner, lightly oil magazine tube etc and reassemble. Reattach jag,put a clean patch/kitchen roll on,add a few drops of gun oil and lightly oil the barrell.Do not over oil. After oiling i tend to store guns upside down in cabinet atleast for a few days with a piece of bog roll underneath barrells to catch any excess oil which drains out. That's pretty much what I did, although I did not put any cleaner in the bore (it had only fired about 10 shots). Is it worth doing it every time it is fired?
