kyska
A couple of examples of my photos using the thirds rule, I'm in no way an expert, but it gives some idea. The first two show how moving the main interest of the image off center draws eyes around the image, the swans white feathers have 'blown out' so be careful when photographing white objects! The pigeon photo shows how waiting for the right light can have dramatic effects, and using the line again to draw the viewers eyes to the main interest. The door handles image is the handles from our tallboy at home and shows how depth of field can be effective, like jasper3 has mentioned.
