BountyHunter
I would like to learn a bit more about the countryside, so I wondered if you guys could tell me why a couple of fields have been planted up s 80% grass, then the remaining 20% is a strip of brassica and then behind that a strip of corn. My landlord encourages Woodcock and has a few Duck ponds, the neibouring estate stocks Pheasant, but I don't see either of these quarries anywhere near this cover. What is it for? Teal
Sounds like gamecover/wildbird cover, he will be able to get a grant from the government/EU to have it. The insect life there will support many songbirds.
BountyHunter
Ahhh, cheers for that. Will there be any restrictions on my shooting around it then? It is teeming with tree rats and the Woodies like to roost in the oaks beyond it. BH

Browning
BH. If in doubt ask the farmer. It may be that he, or his neighboring farm, uses the cover crops to push birds into before flushing on shoot days. If that's the case he won't want you near them and disturbing the birds on the run up to a shoot day.
BountyHunter
I seem to recollect the landlady talking about this, I think that the neibouring estate planted it, I never found out why but it always struck me as strange that they planted on "our" land. It would bug the hell out of me if I couldn't shoot that field because of it as it has a really diverse range of quaries. The landlord didn't say "keep away from the cover" or the suchlike but you are right I will clarify it. BH
