Guest olly speakman
After having a few afternoon outings recently and picking up 15 maximum from each session tim (shooting mate) and I decided to have a proper go at the woodies! It has been a while since we had gained a reasonable bag from a days shooting so as you could imagine we were becoming increasingly frustrated with the poor days we were experiencing! We had agreed on a 9 o'clock pick up time leaving us enough time to pick up a few slabs of cartridges. Our encounter with the local gunsmiths was short lived, as our eagerness to set up and get shooting was far too great! Irritatingly this eagerness turned into frustration, for me anyway! We had visited over 2000 acres, over half of our permissioned farms and not seen a single woodie drop into feed. Our supposed to be 10 minute reccy session turned into an hour and a half until we both agreed to set up on a farm close to home. We immediately cut ourslelves a hide into a ditch and quickly chucked out a few decoys. We have recently taken great interest in the pigon shooter Archie coates and his knowledge towards pigeons, we have watched and read all about his antics whilst decoying, this was a perfect oppurtunity to put his knowledge into practice!! Immediately 3 singles came in 2 were taken cleanly whilst one scuffled away into a tree!! The pattern was working a treat, the pigeons landed where we wanted them to, how simpler could it be, unfortunately our shooting jumped up and down from missing three in a row to then hiting a left and a right! But we still managed to pick up 42 at the end of the day with one crow!! On a day were everything looked bleak we turned to archoe coates and he sure did provide!! Thanks
