Wax Jacket?

I got 20 years use from my Border jacket, and in all that time I reproofed it, once a year, from the Barbour tin that came with the jacket. Sent it back once to have a new zip fitted - £20, including postage. Hopefully I`ve got another 20 years with the Northumbria. Talk about low maintenance!!!

I had a Border for many years, gave it huge amount of stick fishing, shooting & camping as well as wearing it to work as a rain coat. Eventually it died after a ducking in the Spey, although I suspect that my increased girth had more to do with the damage.

Replaced it with a Northumbria which was over 10 years ago & thats still going strong although the arms could do with patching. It lives permanently in a crumpled heap in the boot of my car along with my hunters & lots of junk. The only thing I find bad about it is on a cold & wet day it takes on the properties of cardboard so swinging a gun around isn't the easiest task.

I returned my origional Border jacket to Barbour at one of the gamefair's only to have it sent back with an apologetic note saying it was beyond thier repair, but they did send enough waxed cloth & tarten lining to probably make another coat at no cost!!
