Montefeltro
First of all I would like to thank Straightshooter for doing a fantastic job of refinishing the stocks and forends on a few of my guns The Benelli Montefeltro was my first gun and is not even a year old. I wasn’t too keen on the factory waterproof coating on the wood or the stud in the bottom of the stock for a shoulder strap. I got the stud removed and had an oval put in. this was done by someone else and they mad a real bodge of it I sent it to SS and he sorted this out and removed the original factory wood coating, and then oiled the wood.. I am so impressed with how it has bought the grain out and transformed the gun. The lighter part at the bottom of the stock is actually all part of the original walnut, it’s just a lighter part of the grain. I wasn’t sure if I liked this at first but I now feel it makes it quite individual and I’ve never seen a stock like this before. The original factory coating somewhat hid this lighter transition and by getting it stripped and oiled it has made it more prominent. The San Marco hammer gun (1960) I recently purchased off this forum and although in excellent mechanical condition the wood and varnish was looking tired. It was a shame as I knew that getting the wood sorted would really enhance the gun. SS stripped the original varnish off and removed any minor scratches, he then re-cut the checkering on the stock grip and then gave the whole lots an oiled finish. The AYA No. 3 was basically a similar story, my Dad bought it as a brand new gun and had only fired 500 shells in its life. I bought it off him a few months back for game shooting and the odd clay sesh. The gun was in excellent mechanical condition but the varnish was starting to show signs of age (30+ years old now). SS basically did the same as the San Marco and re-cut the checkering on the forend too. SS has done a great job and I’m very happy with his work, if anyone is thinking of getting their guns woodwork refinished then look no further, Straightshooters your man. I want to get some better pictures in better daylight but I hope you like…
