ASI RangeMaster .22 restoration

Hi all,

I've been given an old ASI RangeMaster .22 springer air rifle in much need of restoration. The thing was an old rust bucket, but having spent the day stripping it down to its component parts (and managing to find spares - main spring/breech seal/piston washer etc.), and rubbing it down to bare metal, it appears to be salvageable. I'm going to black-ox the metal parts (as seen in Cosd's post in the craft & DIY section) and refurbish the stock.

My main concern is the internals. When I took the main spring and piston out, they were completely covered in a thick, alsmost tarry grease. I can't imagine this was good for the gun, so my question is what do people recommend I use to lubricate the spring and piston and how much of it do I put on. By the way, the piston is one of the old leather type ones.

Many thanks in anticipation of any replies.
