Philmypower
Hi guys just been asked an intrested question off a friend, he keeps birds of prey and will only feed them steel shot crows, rabbits e.c.t. he has asked me if my crows shot by my HMR would be any good for his hawk they are ballistic tipped so wasnt too sure so was hoping some one could help. Thankyou
vampire
My local bird of prey centre will only accept pigeons/rabbits shot with steel, one bird died that had eaten a pigeon shot with lead, the autopsy found ONE lead pellt ,so i wouldnt risk hmr even it is remote poss that the lead didnt pass through it. Beardo
i don't see why headshot rabbits (with the head removed) should be a problem. i'd steer clear of birds though
Philmypower
Correct me if im wrong but i thought HMR ammo was copper but i may be wrong, i dont no what is on the tip to make it balistic but i know if i was to shoot a croe with my 17 the bullet would have entered and left the bird, so is there still a risk to his birds of prey? Beardo
copper jacketed lead, with a polymer tip. i'd imagine the round will fragment if it hits any bone in a bird, prob pass through the soft flesh - but you don't know without dissecting it. Beardo
just looked it up on Hornady's site- they do a 15.5gr NTX round that is lead free - be interesting to see how they shoot, never come across them before. http://www.hornady.com/store/17-HMR-15.5-gr-NTX/ CCI also do a TNT Green non lead 16gr HP... http://www.cci-ammunition.com/products/det...amp;loadNo=0951
