Mightymariner
After spending most of Monday checking out fields for today, I thought I had it nailed with a field of newly-drilled wheat with several hundred pigeon on it. However, when I set up this morning, only a handful came by and none appeared interested in the field any more, just using the nearby sitty trees. I only managed to down one, so after a couple of hours went scouting other fields. I found plenty feeding on drillings but the field is bordered by two roads and so small it would be dangerous to set up. The rape fields with birds on yesterday were now deserted, so eventually I went back to the original field and watched for a while. Spotted a few birds using a beech tree halfway up the field but it looked very exposed with no hedge alongside, but decided to give an hour. Ditching most of my gear I took a net, some FUDS and a floater pole. I sat with my back to the tree and draped the net around me, and surprisingly it seemed to work, birds came in small numbers for a couple of hours, giving me some enjoyable if tricky shooting from a sitting down position! I ended with 14, including a couple of left and rights - a small bag but very enjoyable afternoon. And to think, I nearly packed up at Noon to go home.
