New Clay Trap Design

Can anyone shed any light on a new design of clay trap I read about (Shooting Times I think about 2 months ago)which uses a spinning disc instead of an arm to throw the clay?

We are looking for a trap to throw 200 yds+ to simulate driven partridges and the designer of this new trap mentioned it was intended to throw longer distances - which is a problem for arm based designs.

James Marchington covered this on his blog a few months ago, there was quite a good video of it in action and a bit of chat with the inventor - http://jamesmarchington.blogspot.com/2010/09/exploding-rabbits-and-revolutionary-new.html. Very interesting design and worth keeping an eye on, but the one on show was a bit of a garden shed affair, not yet in production so I doubt they are commercially available.

We have two Supermatch 8 Bowman traps at the club, one with with midi inserts, they were about £1500 each late last year. They are incredibly powerful - with the spring wound up and a 45 degree angle the midi chucks clays at least 200 yards, probably more, I think the Bowman blurb undersells the range considerably. In fact we wound it down to minimum as we were having to drag it too far out into the field. Give Bowman a call, they are incredibly helpful.

Many thanks Diceman - this is exactly the piece I was looking for! I've watched the video and while it is still 'work in progress', this trap design seems to have a very rapid recycle rate as well as a long throw which would be a big advantage for simulated game. We'll try to get hold of Ferris to find out the latest.

Thanks again.
