GW80
Looking a bit of advice lads. I have a 2 and half year old springer bitch who looks like she is going through a phantom, she has been scanned by the vet and there is no pups in her but she is still getting bigger and her teets are swelling ready for pups, any tips on dealing with this would be grateful! I had her beating today and she worked on rightly, but don't think i will chance her after today.
apache
You can get a product called 'Galastop' from your vet that will halt the false pregnancy quickly. If you let it wear off naturally sometimes it can take two or three weeks. Once a bitch has had one false pregnancy she is more likely to do so again. Do you intend to breed from her? If not having her spayed would solve the problem permanently. Edited January 8, 2011 by apache

I am taking her to the vet tomorrow evening for a second scan, as i say she is showing all the signs of being in pup but i know she hasn't been mated as i was careful that my other dogs never got her, i'm wanting to breed her next year and have the stud dog already picked, do you reckon it would be better to spay her after i take a litter from her? apache
do you reckon it would be better to spay her after i take a litter from her? I would. No problems with seasons and phantom pregnancies. Protects her from womb infections, which are common [pyometra].
