Redgum
I loaded up some 100gr sierra prohunters with Reloder 17 in 243 a few weeks ago and at last have had chance to test them out. They were loaded in batchs of 3 from 38grs to 40.5grs ( alliants max pressure load is 40.8grs.) They were loading in fully size cases with CCI large rifle primers. I always load in batchs of 3 on the first test as it saves on loading loads of ammo and soon finds the max load for the gun pressure wise. 38.5grs shot a 20mm group so early signs looked good, it just got better and with 40.5grains 2 shots went through almost the same hole then I pulled the third shot to put it just outside half inch( thats the trouble with batchs of 3. The interesting thing was that the gun is zeroed for 87gr Vmax with 43grs of H414, the reloder 17 loads were an inch higher ( tested zero with a 87gr at the end of my test). This sort of leans toward the claims that the powder delivers higher velocities for less max pressure peak. The reloder 17 seemed to have a softer report than the H414 as well but that may have just been me. Pretty pleased with the results as I was lying in the frost after 2 hrs freezing in a high seat. Now I will load a few in 40.5gr of reloder and test when I feel a little less cold, if I do my bit I reckon I'm onto a pretty perfect 100gr load.
