After Saturdays 24, I took the afternoon off work and decided to try my luck in the same spot again. Walking too the wood, I passed the maize strip that I had started shooting on Saturday. Not a bird on it. So mind already made up, I continued my long walk up the hill, along a hedgerow in case an early rabbit was eating the lusin grass. No rabbits about, I had a quick look through the hedge to the rape field the pigeons were hitting Saturday. This field is not part of my permission. It is a large field and a road away from my wood, but they seem to flight backwards and forwards most of the day.

After looking through the hedge I could see that no pigeons were hitting the rape. Things were not looking too good. But I decided that I would give it ago any way.

Once I got into the wood I pushed around 50-60 that I could see out. Its not a big wood, but depending on where the birds are feeding it can produce some decent bags. I looked towards the college and could see that all the birds that I had disturbed were flighting that way, too join around 200 on some grass fields that they have for sheep. In they went and things were starting to look up.

I went to the same spot as Saturday and stood around, the first few that came back were missed. Then it went mad. The time was around 1430 and for the next half an hour i was shooting contstantly. I was downing more than what I was missing. They were coming from everywhere but wanted the part of the wood I was in. It wasnt difficult shooting. The only hard thing was deciding which way to face as they were coming from in front, behind and both sides.

It started to dye off around 1500, with only a few coming in. I decided to give it till 1600, as I had to pick my mrs up from work at 1700. I was just picking up when I looked up to see around 100 coming straight towards me with some already in the trees. I picked a bird out and had one out of them. Counted 19 in my bag, with 42 cartridges fired. Very pleasing couple of hours. The birds had a mixture of full crops. Clover was the main, with rape and ivy berrys. There was no maize yesterday in any of the birds, that surprised me. Pete
