Cake444
I own a new side by side shotgun which I bought about a year ago. I really get on well with it and enjoy using it for game and clay. I went to pick up some 32gram 5's for rabbit/pigeon the other day and got a deal on 500 Hull 34gram 5's which I bought into and am now regretting. I was told by an instructor yesterday day that my gun isn’t suited or proofed for cartridges of this size? In previous posts this question has been answered so apologies for those who are re-reading this. The gun has a 3" chamber and is proofed for steel so surely I’m ok using these until I get through them? I'm pretty sure that the gun can take these without any issues but I’m no expert? Recently I fitted a rubber but plate to take some of the sting out of it and I noticed there is a cavity in the stock which leads to the bolt that holds the stock to the action. This cavity is a reasonable size and I also have about 1.5kg of lead shot. Would anybody advise that I could reduce recoil by putting the shot in a sock or bag and filling this cavity?? Guest cookoff013
yes your gun is capable of shooting those loads. i would recomend get s slower or smaller cartridge. if it a english styled game gun then you wont need massive cartridges for normal game. try subsonics, you may enjoy your gun better. as you said you have lead shot, make your own. i would advise against filling the back cavity, as the ballance will be out and make the muzzel jumpy. HDAV
You can load the stock but it will effect balance and make your easy to carry SxS a heavy beast to lug around, I would say the carts are the easiest cheapest thing to change also consider different makes with softer primers if you really want to sort out recoil speak to uk gun repairs just down the M5 from you there are full on recoil systems you can have fitted, but swap the 34g5's with a mate and get something lighter on the shoulder Eley Grandprix/High Pheasant in 5's

Cake444
Ok well at least it’s safe to use those cartridges for the time being until there gone. I will avoid filling the stock cavity with lead, as you say it’s nicely balanced as its built. I generally use 30g6 - 32g5 but I just bought into the 34's as he had a deal on. I imagine he was keen to get rid of them due to the end of the season and I took the bait
