humperdingle
I had emailed the company responsible for the NRA F.U.D. Decoys, asking if they had any plans to start manufacturing a "Flighted" decoy, to be used as floaters or on rotary machines... This is the response - Just thought some of you guys might be interested "G’day Mark, We are presently working on two forms of flighted decoys to supplement our range. These are the FUD Flyer and the FUD Spinner which are in R&D and aimed at being available sometime during 3rd Quarter this year. Our Flyer is the standard FUD decoy as you use today with photo quality matching wings that join the body from the shoulder rivet to the hip rivet. The pedestal is gone and in its place is an extendable fiberglass pole very similar to those used in dome tents allowing you to deploy your airborne decoy at different heights. The product will pack up just like any other fold up decoy and being much lighter than the competitors alternatives we anticipate it will perform better. Our spinner is again the same standard FUD decoy with wind driven spinning wings connected at the shoulder rivet. These will come on a solid extendable pole allowing for different height adjustments. The spinning motion will be guaranteed in the slightest of winds courtesy of the unique polycarbonate shoulder rivets used that accept the nylon needle or spinning bar that supports the photo quality imaged wings. The R&D here is a bit more complicated but the goal is again to have a fully collapsible motion decoy that comes with no extra parts, no batteries, and that can be deployed in water or on land to suit the prevailing hunting conditions. More significantly with both of these products what NRA FUD has absolutely focused on achieving is that the motion decoy in the air is as close as possible to the decoy on the ground. Matching the two is only possible today when using real birds for no decoy brand has concentrated on placing the same product in both locations. Accordingly the UV signatures, tones, and images are often different with many hunters and decoy brands not giving game birds credit for being able to detect the difference. They do, especially decoy-shy gun-smart birds but when there is no difference between the motion decoy in the air and the static decoy on the ground the birds see exactly what they expect. No detectable difference from the real things equates to no fear which leads to greater opportunities to bag a meal. Contact us around the middle of the year and we should be able to give you an update on these two products. Regards, Andrew
