welsh warrior
im a bit confused to be honest what the difference between the 243 / 243 win / and 243 ackley improved ? can you use all three in the same rifle ? and is it ture that the 243 has the same casing as a 308 but a smaller bullet ? thanks for your help
Rem223
Well the 243 is generally considered to be the .243 Winchester which is as you say a .308 Winchester necked down to .243 or 6mm. There is also the 243wssm which is an idea from Winchester to use a cut down wsm cartridge. It never really took off as it doesn't really offer any advantage over the standard .243 Win and is supposed to be pretty hard on barrels. The Ackley Improved is basically a 243 Win with a sharper shoulder and larger case capacity. It gives a bit more velocity and in theory case life is better. They are not interchangeable with the standard .243 Win. You can use .243 loads to "fireform" the brass to fit the Ackley chamber.
