Donnie
Had my black lab dog 2 months now, had him from a great ftch bloodline. Did everything I think right waited for him great. After house training and getting him used to the outside kennel (for during the day) everything was going well. Once he could go out was even better would sit, stay, bring me the tennis ball and even walk along side with no lead. He was also doing well at a puppy class for socialisation as we have no other dogs. Now just turned four months he does what he wants! Won't come sometimes won't sit and some times when I approach just runs around like a manic until I walk in the other direction. I've gone back to basics straight away and dropped the whistle and his puppy dummy is this the right thing to do and is it his age which is making him act this way? Thanks
WGD
He's a pup mate, he doesn't know his backside from a hole in the ground - back off and make yourself fun to be around without letting bad habits develop. It sounds like you are being a bit too regimented, there is time for all that, what you are doing at the moment is conditioning and all I would ask at 4 months is the pup wants to be near me and sits (being positioned as will most likely be required) for his dinner. That's it. Chill out and enjoy your pup. The don'ts for me are don't: - play tug of war - repeatedly give commands he doesn't understand - let him do his own thing too much, make yourself the most fun he has - reprimand him for picking up things, even if you don't want him to (remote control, kids toys, wife's... er.. toys ) Enjoy him, the time will come when he needs to learn right from wrong but now is not it. Billy.
Enjoy him, the time will come when he needs to learn right from wrong but now is not it. Spot on Don't even consider letting the pup hear a gunshot before he's one.
