Frenchieboy
I went out yesterday evening for a walk around as it was such a nice evening. I took the "Hummer" and the .243 in the hope that I would get a few bunnies and cut them up to use the scent to lure in a fox or two while I was calling. When I get to the farm the landowner was chatting with a neighbouring farmer and they invited me to join them in a "cold can" - It's great when you have that sort of relationship with your farmers! Anyway, about 7:00 I started a bit of a walk with the HMR and took 4 shots and ended up with 4 young rabbits in the bag - perfect for what I wanted to do. I should note at this stage that the place is crawling with young rabbits at the moment, more than I have ever seen before so the farmer wants them culled regardless of their size! Anyway, at about 7:45 I got to where I believed Charlie would come through, on a "cross roads" of 2 very regularly used runs! I chopped the rabbits up and threw them about the area and moved up on to a banking about 75 yards away where I had good cover and a perfect view of the area that I had baited and got myself laid down with the rifle on the bipod. I started calling at about 8:00 just before the sun started going down. Nothing showed for about 15 minutes until I spotted a Kestrel that had flown in over me from behind. The bird circled over the baited area a couple of times and then dropped down straight on to one of the pieces of rabbit that I had put out. It was totally oblivious to my presence and stayed for about 10 minutes while it filled it's crop and then flew away very full and comtentedly. It was an incredible sight to watch! I used to make a point of carrying a camera with me whenever I went out shooting but recently I have not been bothering. I am now going to make a point of carrying my pocket camcorder with me in my shooting bag permenantly, and possible buy a descent quality compact digital camera to go in the bag also so that next time (If there is a next time) I will be able to capture this sort of thing on video and share it with you. No foxes turned up before dark and as I didn't have my lamp with me I decided to call it a night but at least I had the pleasure of knowing that my "concelement was adequate for a Kestrel not to bother with me and that I had supplied it with a good feed! It always seems the same. you never have a camera with you when you need one!

(Philosophy Friday) Too true! To me that is an importany part of shooting, enjoying and appreciating your surroundings.
