COACH
Invest in some lessons with a coach that LOTS of people recommend, not just your mate. It will save you a fortune in the end. Take some one with you that knows about gun fit when you buy your gun as it will also save you a fortune and a lot of heart ache. Use cartridges that have little recoil if you want to be still shooting at a ripe old age. Its a fact that less recoil means more targets broken because your concentrating better on the second target instead of staggering about from the first one, trying to get the gun on line for the second one. BerettaSV10
Follow coaches advice above. If you live in the same area as coach its well worth booking a lesson or two with him as all reports say he is a excellent coach. A lot of us have made a mistake of getting a gun because its looks nice or it fits the budget one has at the time. Say if you have a £1000 spend on a new gun, you could very well find a imaculate second hand gun that fits and handles better than a new one that you had your eys on. This is where a good instructor, coach and gun shop come in as they will check gun fit to ensure the gun is right for you. Makes of guns that egually come up are Beretta's, Browning,s, Miruko's (same as a Browning), and Lanber sporting delux there are other makes, but make sure the gun fits before you part with your money. Some shops hopefully there are not many around could just try and sell you any gun thats on the rack, even if it does not fit. Depending on the area you live in it can take take from a couple of weeks to 3 months ish to get your SGC. You should be able to get a SGC application form from most police stations, who will provide the address where to send the aplication for your area. Also depending on your area some prefer you fit the cabinate before they vistit you, while other areas with do 2 visits one to interview you and then the second to check the cabinate. You can also down load various application forms from the BASC web site below, just select the relevant form link. http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/firearms/certificate-forms-and-fees.cfm The current cost of the appilcation is £50, and I would get your application asap. There are a couple of questions on the form like asking about convivictions ie speeding etc and any medical history / conditions. Declare every thing as part of the police checks they will check these things. As for the caninates each will have their own preferance, my own is for the bratton sound RL5+ This cabinate can hold 4 / 5 guns is extra deep so can hold guns with scopes or in the case of shotguns can store around a 1000 cartridges as well as 4 / 5 guns. It also has a top lockble internal compartment. Shop around for the cabinate as price can vary. You may think getting a 5 gun cabinate is over the odds, but it is virtually gauranteed that if you like shooting you will sooner or later end up with more than one gun, and this saves having to buy another cabinate in the near future then having it re-inspected. A good cartridge for clay shooting is Hull Comp X 21G as they have very little recoil and will break clays as well as any other cartridges.
