Laird Lugton
I'm looking for my first shotgun. I've been using a Lanber Sporter up until now and I like them a lot. So I'm looking for a second hand one. I'm going wildfowling later in the year so I understand I'll have to use steel shot. All the second hand guns I've looked at aren't certified for steel shot. Does anyone know when Lanber started steel proofing their guns?
jason kaye
It doesn't have to be steel,it only has to be non toxic, you can use alternatives such as bismuth, heavy shot, tungsten matrix ,but be prepared to dig into those pockets :o and sorry I don't know when Lanber started steel proofing their guns. Jase.
poontang
This should help. http://www.lanber.net/ingles.html Most 3" chambered guns will be steel proofed. The new Lanber sporter deluxe are steel proofed, not sure about the older ones though.
Laird Lugton
Thanks for the replies. I didn't know there was an alternative to steel shot for wildfowling.

poontang
check the barrels for the steel proof logo that is the 3 leaf tree The Fleur de Lys (It's actually a lily) is the proof mark for high performance steel shot. Standard steel loads (up to 32g-no.4 shot) can generally be used in most guns, with 1/2 choke or less.
