chris o Posted May 3, 2011 Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 hey all i am extremely excited. i have 4 days to go now till my little girl comes home(drakeshead black lab) so i am getting the house and garden puppy proof and the dog crate soughted. just got to buy some food then i am all ready for her. and the fun begins. i am just going to take it very easy and slow till she is 6-8 month then start her up on the trainning. i can not wait. And have you guys got any tips or pointers for me for a lab other then the basic commen sense stuff. what is best things to do with a young lab pup to get the bond strong other then just playing. Donnie Posted May 3, 2011 Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 Could be a bit controversial if your going to keep the pup indoors which I guess you are from the crate. I found that due to me being home first and up first I always walk the dog and always feed the dog. I also was the only one who let him out of his crate when he was in the house now his kennel out side. I have found as my wife has not done these things but has played with the pup the same as me he will only really respond to me now that he is 5 months. So I guess I'm trying to say if you are the one who does these bits and only you do these bits the bond will be closer with him/her. I also stood with him for the first month when he went outside during toilet training, being my first gun dog I think these little bits have helped us bond well.
