Travel and shotgun

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Tried searching for a solution on the forum, can't seem to find the answer.

I do a fair bit of travel for work (spend half my life in Norfolk!) and rather than spending my nights sitting in pubs/hotels I'd rather go find a shooting ground and get some clay practice once a week when I'm away.

However, that means the gun being in my car during work for 2 days, potentially 1 night (stays are sometimes longer). I know when in the hotel I ca lock the gun round plumbing etc and this would be considered 'reasonable', what about while working?

The cars never that far from me, but I could be away from it for 2 or 3 hours at a time?

Are in car safes possible?

What about a trigger lock and fixing to chassis (does the car seat metal hooks count?) ?

How about a solid case and seal that to chassis?

What's reasonable? If it means I'm not sat eating all night long and can get out for some fun it's worth it but obviously don't want to go mad on cost.

The vehicle is a modern Mazda 6 series.

If it was only once or twice a year I would just break down, half in car half in hotel, but if I'm doing this twice a month then I think the steps and security should be increased?

Calling my FAO on Monday to arrange final visit and I'll discuss with him as well but just wanted some insight before if possible.

Thanks for any help possible,

Jon.

You will need permission from the hotel to take the gun in. If you are in the room, a cable lock is fine. Leaving your room would really justify a locked cabinet.

Car safes are on the market. If you leave a gun in the car nothing less would be considered acceptable. Also it would be responsible to remove a vital part from it.

It's all at the discretion of the authorities though.

I recall a couple of chaps getting into trouble for doing this a while ago and got a good rap on the knuckles for not taking enough care.
