OUT OF AREA

"hello"

"good afternoons to you mr. XXXXXXX. I am being called Alex Taylor from the computer department"

"oh yes?"

"it is being about your computer"

"what computer?"

"you have a computer"

"No I don't"

"I am thinking you have a laptop"

"Are you? Well sometimes my wife brings one here"

"Can I talk to her who is bringing it there"

"No she's not here"

"When can I be talking to her with the laptop"

"I don't know. What do you want with her?"

"I am only being able to be talking to her about it"

"But you called me!"

"Thank you, I shall be trying again next time."

Well as I work on the I.T. support for various national, public and private bodies I have to say this is the most lame effort I have ever come across.

The scam is that they have "noticed a problem coming from your computer"

So they ask you to visit their security assistance website. This wonderful and free website will be full of lovely ways to infect your machine. Since you accessed the website the browser will be abused to invite them in antivirus or no.

Never ever visit a website or follow instructions from some stranger cold calling. Whether they have a ridiculous name and dodgy accent or not.
