Clamps
I am new to gundog training and I have a question. My dog (13 month old Lab) is great at retrieving, sitting, staying etc. however there is one element of his behaviour that I cannot seem to master. When he sees another dog/rabbit/bird etc I cannot recall him until he has 'finished' playing or chasing then he returns like nothing has happened. The question I have is how can I stop this, or am I asking too much for a part trained dog? It may just be perseverance as he is still fairly young, however i would appreciate some pointers - Thanks Edited May 15, 2011 by Clamps
mpk
Mine of late has been running off and ignoring me, someone told me to run in a different direction and hide if possible whilst giving the recall whistle. Weather this will work with him/her chasing birds etc I would not be sure . This worked very well today you just have To make sure your quite far away from any roads etc. I was told it's my dogs job to find me not the other way round. Also this method can help with the recall itself also the age that mine and yours is can be the terrible teenage years when anything you do will just fall on deaf ears sometimes.
