ellebarto
Went out on one of my permissions last night just to check what might be getting cut in the next week or so and found one big field had been cut for hay. I'd chucked my favourite .22 in the back seat just in case and as the sun started to set a lovely looking fox popped out of the undergrowth infront of me and started wandering along the hedgerow. By the time I got set he was on the limits of what I consider an accurate shot for a .22 and although I'm very confident of my accuracy with the annie, I'd never taken a .22 shot at a fox before. Mainly because over the years my shooting buddy who kinda of trained me up always said it wasn't 'man enough' for the job. Charlie just stopped to take one last look at me giving a lovely side on profile and with my POI about 2 inches above his ear I popped one nice and clean through his brain box. He dropped like a stone and was a very clean kill. I paced 104 yards out to him. I was very pleased with the shot and packed up there and then on the theory I wasn't going to improve on that but I was suprised at the stopping power of the .22. I guess shot placement was crucial here and another 5 yards and I woudnlt have even taken the shot on. 2 foxes this year so far and m y oermisison is teeming with them! Not so many bunnies anymore though and perhaps thats why!
