M.I.A
I was lucky enough to be offered an apprenticeship when i was 17 but didnt see it through!!! From what i know now it is a hard trade to get into. The only option i would suggest is to either pay for courses, unless you are lucky enough to find someone willing to take you on. Gimlet
I wanted to do that when I was 16 (30 yrs ago). Even wrote to Purdey. They replied that I needed A grade 0'levels in maths, English, metalwork, 1 science and had to reside in greater London with my parents to be considered to join the waiting list for the 5 yr apprenticeship. Gave up on them. Did get a try out in a local gunshop. Just ended up repairing air rifles and selling Barbour jackets. They did say though that a good way into the trade was to serve an apprenticeship in the army as an armourer. Not sure if that still applies today. Wouldn't be a bad start for a youngster, though from what little I see of the news it seems our armed forces have been more or less abolished now.
