Was invited out yesterday by a member off here as always wanted to give the real thing a go.

Well what can I say..

Completely different to what I expected...I thought it would be a case of getting to the field...out of the car, set up and they will come in...

When we got there, he explained that its best to watch for a bit and see where they arm coming from (flight lines  ) and its better to spend 20-30 mins watching and then set up..

So we finally decided where to go...set the hide up and the decoys out (that I borrowed/begged a friend for) and off I went. I even put the birds on the rotary the wrong way round  .

Now I expected that every pigeon i saw would pop down and I could have a shot...NOPE...most just went right past (hard to spot anyway with two eyes, nevermind I just had one). All the time I could tell he was thinking should I change this, should I change that..I did not have a clue  ..ended up moving the rotary another 20 yeards out which helped and made a differance...only problem I had was no face and head veil so think when I was popping up, seeing the pink and changing...he explained to me that if they are coming in...keep my head down till the last minute..and that worked  and dont rush when you do see them.

At least with clays you know where they are coming from, what speed etc..they dont just nearly stop and change direction :sly::oops:

Anyway had a cracking day and REALLY enjoyed it..alot learnt and think I have the bug now :D

not saying the total shots or hits  but like to say thanks for the outing :good:
