BASC Coaching Session

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I started shooting about a year ago and was shooting a round of 50 sporting clays once or twice a week. I was averaging a score of around 24 - 27 in the beginning but then as I went on this dropped to scores in the early teens, this went on for a while until I stopped shooting clays and joined a small game syndicate in January.I now get out a couple of times a week shooting vermin on our land.

As I've never shot driven game before and my first season is looming, I decided to book in for a coaching session with Alan Hawkins, a BASC shotgun coach, who is available through The Weldon Gun Room in Northumberland.

I arrived at my alloted time and was met by Alan who introduced himself and took me out to the shooting ground adjacent to the shop. Alan has a very relaxed manner and immediately set me at ease. During the lesson Alan covered ettiquette at a game shoot and made sure that I was happy with plenty of opportunities for questions, he reassured me that I wasnt as bad a shot as I thought I was, and put my dip in form down to listening to too much conflicting advice at the clay ground. By the end of the lesson I was confidently breaking clays that where being thrown in a random sequence without warning.

Alan even took the time to give a mini lesson and half a dozen shots to the young lad who had came with me to watch, this made his day and he hasn't shut up about it since.

Sorry if this post is a bit of a ramble but I feel that my confidence has improved so much after a lesson that I wanted to let anyone who was thinking of a lesson know that I whole heartedly recommend one and especially one with Alan if you are in the North East.

Cheers,

Peter
