bobby b
I am new to wildfowling and just wondering what you experienced fowlers think i have some 3 1/2", 2 1/4oz tungsten matrix in size 3 shot do you think these will be big enough for geese and roughly what choke would you use? thank you. coyotemaster
I have been reloading for the 10 ga. about 20 yrs., but have never used tungsten. I should think that 1 1/2-1 3/4 oz. of shot pushed a little faster would be better than 2 1/4 oz. at lesser speed. The recoil on the heavier load will loosen your fillings not to mention initiate a flinching problem. Choke constriction with #3 shot for an even dense pattern would likely be somewhere in the .020-.025 range or Modified--Improved modified. I use steel T's for geese on the pass and bb on decoyed birds and ducks. The shot you are considering should work fine.
silver pigeon 3
sorry can't comment on the 10 bore but i use 36g number 3 tungsten through the 12 with 1/2 choke and it is very effective on ducks and geese on the foreshore, might be a bit heavy for decoyed duck though
Tolley D/B8
The 3s you have will be ok for geese just dont push the range, around the 50 yards would be fine, you will have to test a few cartridges on the pattern plate, OUCH, but its the only way to see how good a pattern your chokes throw. ITM is ok through a full choke, once tested on the pattern plate then you will know which choke is best for a given load.
