  1. I think it was the American writer Bob Brister who penned the phrase that full choke is a demanding mistress and IC is a forgiving friend. I have been shooting lots of shells at feral Starlings the past month--my shot bill is atrocious-- and most shots are within 40 yds. At that distance the IC or even skeet 1 with 8s has a pattern the birds cant get through. Incidentally I should add that I am told that Starlings are protected there but farmers hate them here as they roost in livestock barns by the thousands and make a mess. I have watched youtube videos of George Digweed effortlessly killing pigeons at extreme range with what I assume is a full choke and 5s but when you employ that on decoyed birds you "pillowcase"? them. I don't have any of the skill George has at 70 yd. pigeons but when we had pigeons that decoyed well a load of 7 1/2s and Improved Cylinder killed very cleanly to around 45 yds. It is my belief that unless you shoot an awful lot at long range you will kill more birds cleanly with less constriction. This statement exempts large shot and waterfowl.
  2. I don't mean to offend Bruno but with the hacksaw you go from choked to cylinder bore in the width of your thumb, give or take depending on the manufacturers methods. A brake hone is a relatively inexpensive bit of kit as you say there and is easily acquired. It likely costs the same as a hacksaw but is much more controllable. As for barrel length I guess it is personal preference, I used to shoot short barrels at everything but have found longer barrels swing better and the only place I could see their advantage is in a thicket where a longer barrel would be entangled easier. If the gun is premounted as many do in skeet it becomes a non issue. I personally shoot a 28" tube at skeet and start from a low(ready) position to enable more practice in a proper mount when the bird appears. My scores don't seem to suffer from the additional 2" barrel length and at stations 3-5 may actually help keep the gun swinging.
  3. Sounds a bit drastic . A whole lot easier approach is a brake hone as for wheel cylinders with a set of medium grit stones. I customize my screw in tubes for waterfowl and other needs that can benefit by a particular constriction. You can cut .005 out of a tube in 10-15 minutes. BUT you can't put it back so go slow. I actually prefer longer barrels for all shooting as I tend to swing through better than a shorter barrel.
  4. You are so in the "dark". Perhaps you don't remember Obama saying Treyvon Martin could have been his son or sending Eric Holder to Missouri when Michael Brown was shot--attacking a police officer. Hands up don't shoot was the cry, turns out all the cell phone video shows Brown on the attack and he was shot in the top of the head. Maybe you forgot that Obama had the Black Lives Matter group come to the White House- these are the tugs that chant kill the pigs fry em like bacon. At each step Obama did his very best to stir dissension among the whites and blacks. I have had blacks tell me that they fear there will be another civil war. From your perspective the view may be different but you my friend are far removed from reality. Maybe setting relations back 50 years would be more accurate? You are deluded if you think the mainstream media ever said anything bad about Obama-and I was influenced by that coverage. I rely on alternative news entirely if I wanted to know the truth. He was a NWO candidate and the press was in his pocket. He was without doubt the WORST president of these United States we have ever endured--bar none.
  5. I am betting that you have not accumulated much wealth in your life, those of us who have anything to speak of are not generally inclined to "redistribute" what we have labored for. There are many here that favor your approach, I see them everyday at the gym, not really caring about finding a job just hoping the nanny state will provide for them. A few actually still live with their parents--- at age 25-30--- Is this you? Wealth redistribution is a socialist agenda not far removed from communism-- that hasn't worked yet.
  6. What are you smoking? Are you forgetting her meeting with Bill Clinton on the tarmac while she was supposedly investigating his wife? Lynch was one of two Obama AGs that were investigated by Congress, not a common practice for the nations top cop. She should have been indicted and impeached-- actually taking the 5th several times in her testimony to avoid answering questions that may incriminate her in criminal conduct. Her replacement Senator Jeff Sessions is a man of integrity, something that was sadly lacking in ALL of Obama's selections(many of whom he brought with him from Chicago.) I won't even comment on your remark about how well globalisation has done for the UK but it's doing well for Sweden--now the rape capitol of the world.
  7. It may come as a shock to some of you but our American press is owned by some of the same that wanted to imprison you with the EU. When you can control the media you control peoples perception of what is real--some don't question it. The AP/ owned by Reuters/ owned by the Rothschilds until recently. The world bankers are the NWO-- wars do nothing more than increase their bottom line. Obama received the Nobel peace prize- and 1.2 M- under his watch the U.S. was at war the full 8 years of his reign, causes you to wonder-no? What you read about the Donald is never going to be positive, he is not a NWO candidate (nor was Bernie). Trumps victory here is comparable to Brexit there, it's a victory for democracy and should be embraced. Many weak people here can't stand Donald Trump, he has balls, many here would like to have his drive and it's always easier to downgrade someone else than trying to improve oneself. No one in their right mind would not consider a ban( it was NOT a muslim ban) on refugees when it has been the plan to infiltrate the incomers with radicals. It is just common sense but that is becoming more uncommon. Trump is doing exactly what he promised to do and what in part got him elected to the presidency. To those of you debating the 911/ Pentagon/Bldng. 7 debacle, I suggest a couple hours listening to Jim Fetzer Phd. on youtube, he has thoroughly examined the facts and presents a very convincing conclusion. To those of you who are Trump haters I ask you what good you saw in Hillary? She is truly evil. I will close by saying in my eyes Nagel Farage is a hero, probably not a popular statement but I have listened to him on our independent media and he comes off as a pretty smart guy and has helped you accomplish what needed done.
  8. The liberal left is what went wrong. I was going to save this for my reply to the Trump Ban posting but couldn't resist the application. Obama was clearly following the Cloward-Piven strategy of weakening the country in order to affect wealth redistribution. It was a strategy developed at his old alma mater Columbia University in the mid 60s, a time of massive social unrest in this country. In my estimation Obamacare succeeded in doing what the NWO folks had hoped and that was pushing our national debt to 21Trillion dollars. To put Obama in the class of a simple idealist is way too kind. Take a look at the devisiveness he pushed whenever a black citizen was killed, but was noticeably quiet when white people were killed. He pushed race relations back 20 years in a mere 8. ****cago is Obama's home town and he cared about as much about the violence there as he did about global warming when he boarded air force one to head off for a golf outing or another of the vacations he and his family enjoyed at taxpayer expense-- 100M U.S. dollars worth in 8 years. I travel to Chicago frequently and am ever so glad for the NRA and their push to make concealed carry a reality in this state. To all of President Trumps detractors I say this--give the man a chance, he's already done more in a 10 days then Obama/Clinton did in 8 years.
  9. I shoot Improved modified with T shot in the 10 ga. with good result. It mics out at .020 in my barrel.
  10. I tend to think neutron 619 has some pearls of wisdom in his thinking and the rest have confirmed it mentioning the good old Win XX loads. They had a copper coating(albeit over 4- 6% antimony shot) and they killed well-- not because of the copper but the harder than average shot. The copper coating MAY have provided some lubricicity and helped large pellets adjust to the choke-but bear in mind they have polyethelyne buffer as well. In steel loads the only advantage I could see would be the prevention of bare steel pellets exposed to moisture rusting into a solid mass as they don't need the added slickness to negotiate the choke. Much like the house Gorilla they go where they want. The real key in steel loads (and deformation was mentioned above) is truly round pellets and in my humble opinion the largest pellets you can throw and have a dense enough pattern as steel loses velocity rapidly at range and in cold temps(denser air). I have seen steel pellets from promo loads that were less than stellar in the roundness category ie. cheap loads equal cheap shot.
  11. The only way to know what SP Full means in reality is get your dial caliper out and measure the inside of the tube or bore. Remington for example marked the tubes on my 10 ga. lead mod-- steel full, they are fitting their findings to fit laymans terms. If I were shooting large pellets(steel 2 or larger) I would prefer .020 of choke. For anything smaller I wouldn't be too concerned provided the choke didn't exceed .030 of restriction. Tom Roster did extensive testing here with steel pellets as a part of a steel lethality study sponsored by the USFWS and did post mortem xrays and dissection to support his findings. He found you need 3-5 pellets at a given distance with adequate energy to provide a clean harvest. His advice to me via phone conversation was that the .020 was what he used in testing and I've seen him on his video harvesting large geese to 70 yds--consistently.
  12. I guess I'll play devils advocate and say in 40 years of metallic case reloading I haven't crimped any rounds and most of my rifles will shoot .5@100 or less. They don't wear the same barrel long if they won't. As mentioned consistency is the mother of accuracy. Annealing is very useful I attaining consistent neck tension. The more loads on a case the more work hardened the neck becomes if not annealed. I only FL size for semi autos, for bolt guns I neck size only and I believe gain accuracy via a tighter chamber fit and less case stretch alleviating trimming.
  13. That's a great bird killing pattern! I shoot zinc plated shot for no other reason than its the best as far as sherical consistency. Remington Nitro mags use the identical shot and their rep is sterling. Precision reloading here is a supplier
  14. I like your shot choice. I have found that larger pellets hold their energy well so long as you can register the needed 3-5 pellets on target. Tom Roster who did lethality studies here found that .020 choke was optimal for large pellets. L
  15. Keeping in mind you need to push steel fast to have downrange energy along with adequate pellet count to ensure enough hits, I load 1 1/2 oz. steel with 41 gr. Blue Dot in Fed. case fiocchi primer and precision reloading brown wad. This load chronos around 1400 fps in my barrel.
  16. From what I saw he could read fighters well and adapt to negate their advantage. One his techniques was putting pressure on opponents with a potent offense he used referred to as the straight blast-- right down the opponents center. I stand corrected.
  17. I am the Coyotemaster-- probably the deadliest Coyote killer on the Pigeon Watch, keeping in mind you have a rather shortage of the afore mentioned varmint on your side of the pond.
  18. THE load for the .17 Remington, one we have used for years, is 25 gr. HP 25 gr. IMR 4320--velocity will be around 3950-4000 depending on barrel condition. Another really good load is 24.5 Varget 25 HP velocity 4025. I used the 20 Vmax with great accuracy but poor result on thick skinned Coyotes and they blew large holes in Fox hides, splashing on impact. The 25s and 30s work really well.
  19. You can buy a complete after market trigger group to replace the awful factory trigger for about $80/ our currency. They are outstanding reducing pull to a crisp 3#. It's hard to shoot well with a bad trigger.
  20. That's a decent price Beretta hold their value pretty well. I had that exact model and it was a great field gun but a bit light weight for sustained shooting. Wish I had kept it
  21. Ahh It sounds like Donald Trumps ideas, which a lot of us firmly support. Make America Great Again!!! A hearty congratulations for getting out, I was appalled when I saw how much it was costing your country both it terms of pounds and the immigration problem. Controlling ones borders is paramount to controlling the economy. Long gone are the days that highly skilled immigrants are waiting for an opportunity to better the country--at least that's the case here. What remains are a lot of people with questionable intentions flooding the country and getting on the dole, not wanting to assimilate and learn the language and customs. We see it with our southern neighbors and the ones from the Mideast.
  22. I am in total agreement with the boys who say not to buy until you know more about what you want. I have been shooting a bow for about 25 years and it is crucial to have the proper draw length. There is no doubt you and the Mrs. will need different bows and arrows. On draw length one thing to remember is you are better a bit short than long. If the draw length is too long you will strafe your bow holding arm on the inside of the forearm with the bowstring-- a few of those and you will want to quit the sport entirely. I shoot a compound and prefer carbon arrows(either broken or perfect/ no worry about bent aluminum arrows). Look toward a string loop that extends the life of the string where the release attaches should you go compound. PM me if I can help further.
  23. Have the 1200 and it is a very good unit. Probably doesn't matter there but it will read on snow, most won't in my experience.
  24. Apologies if this is covered in earlier posts(didn't scroll through them all) but whether or not the Vmax bullet will produce and explosive result in my experience is velocity. Under 3k they behave somewhat predictably and likely wouldn't exit ( or splash)on your small deer. They sure don't on Coyotes! I would think a 60 Vmax under 3k or a Sierra 60 HP--both extremely accurate in most 12 twists and faster--would be dead right there bullets. Varget in the 26.0 range is lethally accurate. This is through a shorter barrel , may need to adjust to meet velocity requirements. As is in every case shot placement is everything.
  25. We use a loose camo mesh face mask for Doves in late season when they are wary. They have elastic straps that secure them, I employ them for varmint calling as well as they stop the shiny bright face looking out from the brush. Hunters Specialties markets them here but I am sure there are others.
