Salopian
Had a very interesting day so far today. Harvested a field yesterday, went out this morning at 7am no decoys at all, just gun & cartridges. Pushed back into a hedge, little bit slow at first, but shot three, flighting across the field. Stuck these out and then they started to stream into the area. Two hours and a bit later and I've shot 53. Went home for breakfast and then back out at 10.15. Nothing, not a bird in sight, sat under a tree for a couple of hours and managed to shoot a couple of stragglers. Now here was the interesting (for me )bit. I deliberately set them out midway between two flightlines which was a good 6-700 yards apart and was pleasantly surprised to see birds deviate off the flightline to come and have a look. Their eyesight is amazing, there I was sitting just in the shadow of a tree, no hide, net or anything, keeping completely still until they were within range, and as I lifted the gun they flared away, so the shooting was fantastic, having to anticipate the flare and giving them a touch of lead, brilliant, really enjoyed it. Have any of you noticed any particular feeding times or habits upon wheat & corn? Busy times or non-feeding times etc.,
