mag357
I have some ppu and rg brass together with Vit N140 powder and 55 grain fmj how many grains of powder is best suited to this combination distances of shooting will be between 200 and 500 yards Using a FMJBT of 55grn N140 not the best powder, you need something that burns a little faster. Accuracy load I use for 55grn Sierra MK FMJBT is Viht N133 24.2 grains giving a velocity of 3200 ft/sec. I dont know what rifle you are using or barrel twist, length, AR-15,bolt action etc. I start off by loading 2 grains below and working up in 0.5 grain increments.Always look out for signs of overpressure when approaching max loads. The group will tell you when you have reached the 'sweet' load.Do all your testing in nil wind and at 100yds. Any further advice, get in touch. I have shot .223 at 1000yds at Bisley but it tends to run out of puff at 600yds.Double base powders and heavier bullets, 80 grain bullet heads with tight twist barrels is the way to go for .223 long distance. At Bisley I use Sako TRG 22 in .308 with 155grn Scenar bullets for 1000yds.
