Thunderbird
Just wondered if anyone else gets this or can comment? Got a fairly mature Victoria plum tree in the garden (first summer here) and (along with an apple tree) had some very early fruit this year. In July the crop started with large, ripe and sweet plums, but 50% of which contained the brown moth grub. Then there was a kind of optimum level early in August when there were a lot of large ripe plums, no grubs just sweet, large, good fruit. Picked lots at that time. There were loads (and I mean loads) of smaller plums left on the tree which I thought would grow and ripen. As of now they haven't grown in size at all, but have gone very dark and soft BUT do not taste ripe at all, despite many beginning now to rot on the branches. In fact they don't really taste of anything apart from being a bit bitter at the edges. The tree needs a serious prune anyway - what should I do? Just realised this sounds a bit like Gardener's Question Time, sorry, but what do the panel think...?
