webber
I've just read the letters section of Gamewise, the biannual magazine of Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust. In the letters section there is a letter from a small farmer located at Hayle. In his letter he contrasts the current bird population with that of 40 years ago on his 100 acre farm which is in a stewardship scheme. He states that whilst he tries to control the rabbit population, it is uneconomic to control the corvids which he believes are responsible for the decline of other bird species. His letter attempts to make a case for government funded trapping of corvids, and points at the millions of pounds spent by various government conservation bodies that actually do very little. I wondered if there was a PW member in the Hayle area who would be interested locating the farmer and offering to control the corvids to assist with the farms conservation efforts, obviously for free. I appreciate that its a bit of a long shot, but nothing ventured; nothing gained. This is an ideal opportunity for a win win win. I will PM the farmers name to PW members who can prove that they are located in or near to Hayle, and have previous experience of corvid control. webber Edited September 29, 2011 by webber
