James Pond
Am looking at viability of re building an old pen and next year getting some pheasants....maybe....after i have read up on it. 1. Any suggestions on a good book on rearing/keeping pheasant? 2. Any suggestion on cheap source of feed for this years odd bird that seem to turn up? Or should i buy a bag or two of pukka game feed? How much for 25kg say? Thanks

Alycidon
Wheat every time. Pheasant pellets will get wet and go mushy and block the spiral. There are a number of good books on starting a shoot from scratch, Gamekeeping by Jeremy Hobson comes to mind as one. Be aware though that it is an awful lot of work, day in day out. I recon I spend almost week working on the shoot for every hour I spend shooting pheasants. Little of that is shooting pests etc. A
James Pond
Thanks so much. Better get others interested then, fortunately have livery stables next to me and may be able to get help feeding in return for over ready rabbit. Pigeon and pheasant. Thanks again.
