Beardo
My father gave me this when he moved house last month - it belonged to my Grandfather, i remember it from his mantelpiece when i was a kid - but not sure if he brought it back from WW2 or got from his father in WW1. It's been adapted into a lighter - and still works fine! I'd imagine the head it milled to purpose and not original. Dimension are metric fitting so perhaps it's German? He was a navigator on Hudsons in the RAF. Case height = 11cm (4" 6/18ths) Neck diameter = 2cm (3/4") Any clues?
njc110381
I was thinking 20mm Oerlikon but it doesn't look quite right. I searched for that and found this It's bound to be one of them?! Edited January 4, 2012 by njc110381
Beardo
going by those i reckon it's a 20mm x 110 HS 404 Practice Mark Iz (UK-US Case) with the end cut down. That would make sense age wise and also usage - Bostons were equipped with the Hispano and he was on those for a while in 88 Sqdrn
