starting shotgun reloading.

Recommended Posts

Hi to everyone reading this. I'm starting a new venture into the seemingly fascinating world of reloading. I've made myself a lead shot maker which I hope to try soon. Ive got about 50kg of lead for free to get me going and just purchased a lee-loadall from the other sales section of the forum. I intend going to a local supplier of reloading components next week and wanted to know what to look out for.

I understand the best thing to do would be to pick a couple of load recipies which I want to load and get the components to suit but for example which powder will give best coverage of different loads in the 28-32gm range for both clay's and game. Some of the vectan range possibly? Is there such thing as a multi purpose primer, again to give me a few options? I would like to use Gamebore black gold cases as I have hundreds available to me.

Second question. I want to produce a super wildfowling shell equal to or better than Gamebore's mammoth 36gm 3" load. My gun is proofed to 1370bar/19870psi so something below that. I will load this by hand as previously suggested weighing every charge using the lee for crimping priming etc. I am willing to buy components specifically for this load if anybody could suggest a recipie, or good book/manual containing such loads.

I still need scales, preferably digital but on a budget. Not ideal I know but something to get me going. Any suggestions.

I all just seems like a minefield of information and choices but I'll get there.
