I was lucky enough to have a tax refund just before christmas,so straight down the gun shop and bought a Mossberg stealth 410 pump for those areas that are noise sensitive, near buildings etc.

Out in the field its a great little gun,i tryed a selection of cartridges for patterning at 20 and 30 yds,the gamebore 65mm 11g pattern showed they were only good for 20 yds or less, next i tryed gamebore 3inch magnum 16g which made more noise but would be good for 30yds,eley subsonic 3inch 18g put out a really good pattern at 20 yds and at 30 about the same as the 3inch magnums.

So im off out lamping with the mossberg tonight for rabbits and on one of my permissions they have a rat problem around some skips so i shall have a wander around and see what i can bag.

Does anyone else use a 410 regularly ?

i use the .410 a fair bit, had a webley & scott b/a for years.as it only fired 2 1/2" cartridges it was a 20 yd gun. it shot nice even patterns with most carts, but the pattern wasn't reliable enough for live quarry at 25 yds.

had a bsa (made in spain) 3" single which threw reasonable patterns @ 20 yds with 2 1/2" carts, but was awful with 3" carts.

just before xmas i decided to get a brand new biakal single (£189.99). i'd had one before, and looking back should never have got rid of it.

will be doing a more in depth pattern test very soon with 3" gamebore, lyalvale and eley.

i'll have to try the new eley .410 trap 3" carts (19grm no. 7 1/2 shot), as they should throw a dense pattern to 30 yds.

there great guns money well spent . I've had so much fun with my 410. Took a fox down last year with one shot with a 3in mag . But used it .the 1st time this year with 2and a half cartridges . Put my ferrets in loose and bolted and shot 6 rabbits and 8 rats . Got the bug again with it.

I use a single shot pedretti hushpower 410, when out lamping my brother uses his rimfire & I drive with the 410 out the window, lost count of the number of rabbits I've shot with it cracking little tool with 3 inch magnums noise is no big issue dosent seem to spook the rabbits.
