game_keeper
Hi there all, I have had a broody chicken sitting on eggs for some time now. I have just had one of my chicks hatch, im hoping for a few more. The question if, what now? I have limited experience with chickens so was hoping someone out there knows a thing or two. The chicken and chick are currently in the nesting box as i am waiting for the others too hatch. After this shall i move the mother and the chicks tto a seperate box in the shed etc, or should i just keep them in the ark. The nesting box is fairly small as it is an ark i keep them in. I have 8 chickens, but if i kept the chicks in the nesting box, would the others lay there eggs else where? Any help appreciated as i have limited knowledge in this field. Many thanks Rob, I will try and get some pics soon of the chicks
young gun
Once the chicks have all hatched and are dry it should be alright to move them and the mother into a seperate box or even a hutch or run as weather is nice, i wouldn't put them in with the other chickens as often they will attack and kill chicks if they are not the mother. You should also get some chick crumbs for them as they won't be able to eat standard chicken feed as it is usually to big for them to manage.
