First Driven Day

I was lucky enough to get invited on a driven day yesterday. This was my first game shoot. I have done a bit of pigeon and clays before but never done a driven day, just wouldn't be able to afford it.

Well what a fantastic day! we had some good birds, peasents and partridge. Most of them knew to keep low or turn away from the guns but there was still plenty in range. Finished off with a duck flight. Very good hospitality and company to shoot with. Shoot captain, keeper, beaters and picker uperers done a top job.

My very first shot was at a partridge zipping along and when it dropped like a stone I was so chuffed it didnt matter if I missed everything else. Then on the duck flight i managed to hit one with my top barrel followed swiftly with another from my bottom barrel. We ended up with just under 200 birds at the end of the day and I hit my share out of those.

All in all it was a perfect day and I just wish I could do it more often. Although doubt my other half and the bank would let me! Think I will need to find a local shoot to beat on and try and get on the beaters day. If I am very fortunate to get another invite sometime then I will move heaven and earth to make sure I can attend! :D :D :good: :good:

Sounds tremendous - I hope the peasents/peasants were suitably deferential and doffed their caps before they were shot - never mind, even if they were bolshie [think Mr G Brown from Kirkaldy] it sounds as if you had a great day - January partridges are very special and will live in your/our memory for a long time.

Just keep saving for the next time and I am sure your next day will be even better..... 200 birds towards the end of January equals a very good shoot.
