bedwards1966
Hi All, Just wondered if anyone has any recent experience of putting a new FAC application with North Yorks? Sent mine two weeks ago and haven't cashed the cheque yet but rang them and they have confirmed they have my application, cant give any me any idea all they can say is upto 3 months?!! If you're lucky I put mine in at the end of April 2011, they cashed the cheque after a couple of weeks and it was around 2 months before the FEO got in touch, nice bloke but had very limited times available to see me, it was a case of 'next Tuesday at 2pm or the Tuesday after that at 2pm...', they are very busy. After my interview it was over 2 months to get my certificate, it took about 2 weeks longer than usual as the FEO had to come back to check out my shiny new cabinet. He didn't have to visit any land to clear it for me, which may have speeded it up slightly. The total process was a full 5 months from start to finish, and I kept ringing them to find out what was happening, I'm not sure it does any good though. However, I was told by my FEO that they have so much work on as a result of renewals being done every 5 years instead of the old system of renewing them every 3 years, so they have a situation where at times they are really busy and working until past 7pm but other times they are not so busy, as changing the system messed it all up for them as they have a sudden rush of renewals. Perhaps you'll be lucky and get it done sooner, perhaps not. I know when I got my SGC (maybe 3 years ago?) that took around 6 months, perhaps I'm just unlucky every time! Oh, where in North Yorkshire are you, do you know who your FEO is? I've got Allan Woodhead, if you have him you should find him quite reasonable and helpful, though make sure you have a 'British Standard' cabinet, they don't like anything less. What have you put in for out of interest? Edited February 3, 2012 by bedwards1966

Livefast123
Took me over 2 months with Avon and Somerset to get an interview for SGC/FAC. FEO said that because of the 3/5 year renewal thing that all the firearms licencing departments are flat out and it's a bad time to apply :yp: Apparently another 6 to 8 weeks until licence drops through the door. apache
North Yorkshire are a very efficient force. I put in for a variation between Christmas and New Year and had it back in my hand 10 working days later with 3 extra slots added. My wife put in for a FAC grant same time and has her interview on Monday. I fully expect her to have the cert in her hand by the end of the month. They told me that it could take 3 months and was less than 2. It's a great force to be with, no daft mentoring conditions, everyone with open certificates. It's nice a police force treating us like adults.

Yes, I have also found them good in this way and very much like having my open certificate, my only fault with them has been the time to deal with my applications. Perhaps I've just applied at bad times, I don't know.

What have you put in for out of interest? In Scarborough as well, and yes it Allan Woodhead, BS cabinet fitted and have met him before. Yes very helpful I remember my shotgun took about 2 months as they are so busy. And yes Allan could only make particular times it was a week or two from when he rang to when I could meet up with him. Put in for .22, .17HMR and 243 with mods.

Al69ec
A friend of mine applied for his on 25th November 2011 and received it on the 23rd December. Very happy with north Yorkshire police. apache
My wife put in for a FAC grant same time and has her interview on Monday. I fully expect her to have the cert in her hand by the end of the month. My prediction was correct. Her FAC landed today. Just under the 2 month mark for an initial grant. North Yorkshire continue to meet my expectations!
