Reddo
Hey there! Yup i'm a newbie.. so HELLO to you all! I've seen alot of you like to shoot fox? I was wondering if anybody still sold or gave away the hides these days? I've been looking for someone local (south west dorset area) thats looking to hand over the hides! I tan them myself and am on abit of a mission to collect a few. Any ideas?

Muggins.
Possibly, will have to get back to you. How much are you offering per pelt? Edited February 14, 2012 by Muggins.
Reddo
Im not totally sure to be honest - what would you consider reasonable ? Someone local to me sells his fox hides for £10 and his deer for £15 - obviously having no work done to them - but he has a set buyer at the moment so cannot spare any. kent
Let me tell you they are horrible things to skin and can be a danger to your health- i used to do a lot when it was still worthwhile finantially in my younger days.

Yea, I know it's not pretty, did you tan them yourself? - Thats why I asked, I wasn't sure if anyone still sold the pelts.. they are not to sell on, but I am looking to keep them for myself. I was wondering if anyone even skinned them or is it just a case of burrying them these days? I got a coyote pelt from america but seems silly to order a load of fox from there when theres still people who shoot fox here in the uk, u know? Ideally having a skinned pelt would be perfect, I can scrape it and tan, I wonder if that is even a possibility? If not I know someone who can skin. Thanks for your reply

Thanks for your reply Tell you what speak to your nearest keeper and collect a good carcass and skin it yourself, i doubt anyone will complete the job for you. I used to skin roll and freeze the pelts and send them in bulk to a trader in Birmingham if i remember correctly, this was when fur was still ok to wear in public opinion. It was well worth it i do remember i got more a week doing this than i did as an apprentice welder. They cannot be taken in the molt though, you want full firm winter coat

The original plan was to skin, scrape and tan it all myself anyway - guess I was just hoping of an easier option! Its a shame really, as far as im concerned its a waste, I love the Pelts, dont make them into anything as such - The coyote is currently just a wall hanger - I tell you.. some of the reactions I get when people visit..sure do make me laugh! Its either complete disgust or amazement. Infact I get alot of people ask me if its a dog!! My other half is a keen shooter, he works in a conservation nursery and part of his job involves getting the squirrels down, he's got a plan to make a nut collecting sack out of squirrel skin for his boss haha the irony. Beardo
I'm sure you'll have no problem getting whole foxes if you ask, but it's a drag skinning them
