WelshLamb
After reading some topics on here with great interest regarding eye dominance, I decided to try smearing a tiny dab of grease (well, lip balm ) onto my left lens today while shooting some clays. Clay ground was empty so decided if I was going to make myself feel like a ****, at least no one else would witness it ' Put a teeny bit of greasy stuff on my left lens, as left eye is MUCH more dominant than my right, and I shoot right handed (i.e gun on right shoulder). Decided to go onto an easy stand with birds that I know I can hit. Well out of 10 shots I didn't hit a single one . Wiped the grease off and tried the same stand with another 10 birds. I hit 8/10. I think I will just put up with the eye dominance 'issue', and stick with what others have said on here... If the gun fits properly, then eye dominance really isn't an issue, and it will shoot at where you point it! After today I couldnt agree more
HDAV
Do you normaly close an eye jo?
WelshLamb
I shoot both eyes open, but read on here that squinting your left eye, or partially blocking sight e.g. with grease can help massively. Well for me, it didnt!
HDAV
One thing to note is women's eye dominance is different to men's something about the make up of our optic nerves, without seeing it through some one else's eyes it's hard to say what is what do you have a better eye? Or 20-20 vision?
Wallachie
This is an interesting topic, I am still trying to work out whether I should close my left eye or leave it open! I have a feeling that I'm a better shot with it closed though. What is the norm? Do most people shoot with both eyes open? Perhaps I should persevere with both peepers ajar! WelshLamb
I used to shoot with left eye closed, but had a coaching session and he suggested I try both eyes open. My shooting has improved massively!

My shooting has improved massively! Yeah I had a feeling that may be the case, I'm tempted to get some lessons as I am just setting out with the sport, otherwise I may end up with bad habits like this! HDAV
Lessons are the way to go at first, missing with good technique is better than hitting with bad (well that's what i tell my self!)
working dog
I have left eye dominance issues and used optical foil to bring my right eye into play. Initially I missed more birds as the picture I saw was very different to the one without the foil. With the foil I see straight down the rib, without I see the left side of the gun and a confused rib (sometimes see two converging ribs) After a few sessions on the clays I had a much clearer picture of where the gun was in relation to the clay and my scores improved. Previously right to left crossers were more hit and hope whereas now I still miss plenty but I have a good idea of what I'm doing wrong.
